The Board of Directors of the Middle East Solar Industry Association, the largest solar trade group in the Middle East, has decided to endorse the UAE’s bid to host Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Under the theme Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, the Dubai bid will focus on three sub-themes, one of which is sustainability; a theme at the core of MESIA’s mandate and vision.
The Board of MESIA is also encouraged by the Higher Committee’s announcement that 50% of the energy consumed by the proposed 438-hectare Dubai Expo 2020 site will come from renewable energy sources. Photovoltaic solar panels are due to be installed along the main facade of the Expo complex.
“This is a fantastic initiative on the part of the UAE and it will no doubt raise awareness about the vast potential for solar power in this region,” said Vahid Fotuhi, President of MESIA. “It is perfectly aligned with MESIA’s mission to promote solar across the Middle East” he added.
