Derek Kirton is a partner in the Dubai office of Chadbourne & Parke, one of the world’s leading law firms for renewable energy projects and has been working in Middle East’s energy sector for over 12 years. His practice covers solar, wind, geothermal, coal-fired, gas-fired, water, wastewater, oil and gas and infrastructure projects across the Middle East, Turkey, North Africa and Africa. Many of the projects on which he has advised are pathfinder transactions and have been awarded deal of the year by various industry publications.
Derek is currently advising the Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water and the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects in connection with their procurement of two IPP projects and has developed project document frameworks for numerous projects, including in respect of solar projects, and is an active speaker and panelist moderator at industry events.
Derek has been involved with MESIA since its first inception as the Emirates Solar Industry Association and was an active steering committee member during its early days of bringing together the region’s nascent solar industry. Derek recently moderated a panel session on Egypt’s clean energy opportunities at the MESIA hosted “Egypt Energy Forum” in January.
