The Significance of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for Renewable Energy Project Development

  • Date: April 02, 2014
  • Time: 4:00pm to 6:00pm
  • Location: Moorea Ballroom Section 3, Sofitel The Palm, Palm Jumeirah - East Crescent Road, Dubai, UAE

Dii is an international industrial alliance, turning power from the deserts into reality. Since its foundation in 2009, the initiative is paving the way for an industrial-scale market for solar and wind power in North Africa and the Middle East (MENA) and connecting them to the European power markets.
Identifying the top renewable energy sites giving best LCOEs is absolutely crucial for project developers. Therefore Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are of paramount importance: GIS allows gaining accurate and detailed insight on renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar, best corridors for transmission and distribution and many additional site data. During the past two years, Dii has been designing a professional and state of the art GIS tool for renewable energy site assessments integrating huge amounts of Geodata in the system to deliver optimum results.
The presentation on GIS for Renewable Energy will focus on GCC and Jordan and will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to GIS
  • GIS dataset and potential resources, sources and quality
  • GIS analysis for renewable energy, FLH and LCOE
  • GIS as a multi-criteria decision analysis tool for site identification
  • Existing GIS web tools for GCC and Jordan
  • Demonstration of the Dii Web Mapping Application
  • Q&A

Since the number of participants is limited, we would kindly ask you to confirm your interest before March, 27th by sending your name, company and contacts details to Ms. Katrin Muhme at Muhme@dii-eumena.com
