Cyril Escaravage

Business Development Manager – Middle East Projects, GoodWe

  • Please describe your role at GoodWe and expertise in the sector?

Given the growing number of utility-scale plants in the world as well as Europe, GoodWe decided to develop new dedicated products and solution for this market segment. I have been appointed to develop this strategy in the Middle East, where GoodWe had an initial footprint through distributors. Now we are positioning the company towards all stakeholders, engaging with the developers and operators of solar power plants.

  • How did your story in solar begin and your opinion, how much has it changed since then, if at all ?

My journey in Solar started in 2016 with Schneider Electric in Dubai. I was leading solar business for utility scale, and a major success for the company was the conclusion of a contract for Dewa III phases B and C after two years of discussions. Coming from the conventional energy sector I didn’t except the solar sector to be so drastically competitive, with level of LCOE racing down and provoking earthquakes in the supply chain. New forms of organizations emerged, more hybrid I would say, taking the best across the continents. GoodWe is such a company, super agile and highly communicative across the organization.

  • What is unique about the products or services provided by your company?

The story of GoodWe started in 2010 in the residential market. That’s where the reputation of the company was established. GoodWe was Ranked No.1 storage inverter by Wood Mackenzie in 2020 and achieved six consecutive TUV Rheinland ‘All Quality Matters’ Awards. Up to date GoodWe installed 23GW solar inverters in 100 countries and regions, half of it in residential.

GoodWe is running its development in EMEA from Germany and has organic teams in 20 countries, which enables to provide a premium quality of service both during presales and aftersales. Among its core values GoodWe will never compromise about quality.

The flagship product is the HT series inverter which comes in two versions: the 1100V version for commercial and industrial rooftop and ground installations with a range from 73 to 136 kW, and the 1500V version for large ground installations which includes two models: 225 and 250kW.

  • What could you tell us about GoodWe growth opportunities in the region?

GoodWe implemented a Project Competence centre in Europe to fully support EPC’s and developers both at commercial and technical stages and we are increasing our staff on a monthly basis in order to be fully focused on project solutions. Utility scale projects is where we see growing opportunities in Middle East, a region leveraging the value of large string inverters when they are designed for reduced LCOE and long service life.

We are proud to say that, despite only recently entering this market, we have already sold far more than 1 GW of our HT string inverters for Utility projects PV plants in the world.

  • What does MESIA’s collaboration mean to you and GoodWe?

We are delighted to have partnered with MESIA, the most recognized and active association in the region. We are confident that the collaboration between GoodWe and MESIA will have great benefits for us and bring GoodWe expertise to be recognize in the MENA region too.
