The British University in Dubai has been shortlisted to participate in the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME) 2021. The competition challenges students to design, build and operate solar powered houses integrating seven pillars: Sustainability, Future, Innovation, Clean Energy, Mobility, Smart Solutions, and Happiness. SDME is customized to challenge student teams to design the most sustainable and smart net zero house relaying on a solar system.
The houses shall be assembled and showcased in Expo 2021 at the Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park aligning with Dubai EXPO 2020.
“SDME is organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council. The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and the US Department of Energy signed an agreement to collaborate on the development of the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME) in November 2018- November 2021; a competition that will integrate unique local and regional characteristics. All proposals focus on solving the issues and needs for the sustainable living in the Middle East, where high temperatures, high humidity and dust condition. International teams enter the challenge for the opportunity to win prizes totaling AED 10 million.”- DEWA
MESIA is supporting the British University in Dubai’s Harmony House Solar System to compete in the upcoming Solar Decathlon competition. The team is currently looking for sponsors to provide and build the rooftop and BIPV design of the solar house in addition to sponsors offering funds to support the remaining tasks of the construction.
