Solar energy has made great strides in Jordan and continues to progress despite a challenging 2020. At the start of this year, there were 1550 MW of installed renewable capacity, three quarters of which came from solar, accounting for 16% of electricity generation. Renewables are set to continue growing and are expected to reach 2400 MW by the end of 2021.
But 2020 has left almost no one unscathed and in March 2020, the solar industry hit a hurdle.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, a large decrease in electricity demand left Jordan with more electricity that demand could absorb. In this context, the Jordanian authorities deciding to disconnect all unsubsidized solar plants from the grid.
In this webinar, we will analyze the consequences of this decision and how the government has finally opted to promote the use of solar energy.
